Nutrition and dietetics is a branch of science that examines the nutrients necessary for a healthy life and the functions of nutrients in the human body.
What is Nutrition & Dietetics?
Nutrition and dietetics refer to a systematic approach aimed at improving individuals' health and quality of life. Nutrition ensures that the body receives the necessary nutrients in the right amounts and balance, while diet involves creating and implementing personalized nutrition plans. Nutrition and dietetics are critical for the prevention and treatment of health issues, as well as for supporting overall well-being. A dietitian prepares specialized diets according to an individual's medical conditions, provides nutrition education, and monitors patients' progress. They also collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support treatment processes and help individuals achieve their health goals.
Which Diseases Can Nutrition and Dietetics Helps toTreat?
Nutrition and dietetics can focus on the management of the following diseases:
Metabolic Diseases: Metabolic disorders like diabetes may require nutritional and dietetic intervention.
Cardiovascular Diseases: Nutrition plays an important role in conditions such as hypertension, heart diseases, and high cholesterol.

Body Analysis and Dietitian Consultation Within Check-up Packages
Body analysis is a method that thoroughly evaluates the components of an individual's body and overall health. Typically, parameters such as body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage, muscle mass, water balance, and metabolic rate are measured. This analysis is used to understand a person's general health, manage weight, improve sports performance, and assess disease risks. At our hospital, we conduct these analyses using the TANITA MC780-MA device with bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) technology.
Inpatient Nutrition Monitoring
Clinical nutrition (inpatient nutrition monitoring) involves regularly evaluating the nutritional status of patients receiving treatment in the hospital through screening tests such as NRS-2002 and MNA. Personalized nutrition plans are created based on the patient's health condition, treatment plan, and specific needs. The patient's calorie intake and nutrient levels are monitored daily, and deficiencies or excesses are identified. A clinical nutrition team, including a geriatric physician, dietitian, and nutrition nurse, maintains constant communication with the patient. For those with insufficient oral intake, nutritional support products are provided. Additionally, patients receive the necessary information and education regarding their nutrition.
Nutritional Monitoring for Diabetes
Nutritional therapy in diabetes is crucial for maintaining blood sugar levels and preventing complications. Carbohydrates are the primary nutrient that affects blood sugar levels. Patients diagnosed with diabetes receive education on healthy eating, meal planning, portion control, and carbohydrate counting, which is key for managing their condition. Carbohydrate Counting is a three-stage training that helps individuals understand carbohydrate-containing foods, learn the carbohydrate content of different foods, select the right types of carbohydrates, and monitor carbohydrate intake to manage insulin dosages and blood sugar levels. At our hospital, we collaborate with endocrinology and internal medicine specialists. The first two stages of this education are provided to all diabetics, while the third stage—focused on insulin dosing—is applied to individuals with Type 1, Type 2, or gestational diabetes undergoing multiple insulin therapie
Post-Bariatric Surgery Nutrition
Bariatric surgery includes procedures that promote weight loss and reduce the health problems associated with obesity. Post-surgical nutritional management plays a critical role in the long-term success of the surgery. Regular follow-up with a dietitian after surgery enhances the effectiveness of the procedure and prevents nutrient deficiencies. It helps maintain weight control, supports a healthy body composition, protects digestive system health, and provides psychological support. Patients who undergo bariatric surgery at our hospital are followed up every 2-4 weeks along with their doctors. Regular health checks are conducted to monitor their nutritional needs and prevent vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Supplements such as vitamins, minerals, protein, and probiotics are provided as necessary.
Nutrition During Pregnancy
Instilling healthy eating habits during childhood is a fundamental investment in future health and quality of life. For this reason, it is crucial for parents and caregivers to understand the nutritional needs of children and create an appropriate nutrition plan. Regular meals, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and healthy snacks, help maintain a balanced intake of daily protein and energy. Portion sizes should be adjusted according to age and physical activity level. At our hospital, we create personalized nutrition plans for children in their growth and development stages based on parameters such as age, height, and weight. Additionally, alternatives are provided in the nutrition plans for children with food allergies or intolerances. For children experiencing malnutrition or growth problems, nutrition counseling and guidance are offered to support their development.
