Adolescence is a period of transition from childhood to adulthood that includes physical growth, sexual development, emotional and psychosocial maturation. The changes and situations experienced during this period are of great importance in terms of ensuring a healthy transition to adulthood. During this maturation process, various difficulties may be encountered in the family, school and social environment. For these reasons, health services that should be provided to adolescents should be specific to this age group.
In our Adolescent Health Polyclinic, evaluations related to growth, general clinical problems, adolescent gynecology (pubertal disorders, delayed puberty, menstrual irregularities, excess hair growth, polycystic ovary disease, vaginal discharge, sexually transmitted diseases, ovarian cysts and tumors, breast problems), Medical evaluations of eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder and others) and obesity, sports health, bone health, differences in sexual development, sexual life and prevention, penile and testicular problems in male adolescents, varicocele, pubertal gynecomastia (breast enlargement) are evaluated.
One of the main duties of adolescent polyclinics is to provide preventive health services. For this reason, the application of adolescents to health institutions for any reason is considered as an opportunity to provide preventive health services. In our outpatient clinic, adolescents receive preventive health services regardless of the reason for presentation. In this sense, HEADSSS, which is a history taking format specific to adolescents, is performed, psychosocial risk factors can be determined and information about hygiene education, healthy living and nutrition education, physical activity education and sexual health education is provided.
At the same time, problems related to coping skills of adolescents (adolescents with chronic diseases, adolescents with chronic diseases in their parents, adolescents with psychiatric pathologies in their parents), substance abuse and behavioral problems are addressed and necessary referrals are made.
