Hydronephrosis Program in Children
When the renal pelvis (the part of the kidney where urine is collected) is found to be wider than normal, it is called hydronephrosis.
What Does Hydronephrosis Mean?
When the renal pelvis (the part of the kidney where urine is collected) is found to be wider than normal, it is called hydronephrosis. Hydronephrosis, which is generally known by families as kidney enlargement, kidney enlargement, or water collection in the kidney, or cyst, is actually the enlargement of the formations inside and outside the kidney that carry urine, not the kidney itself. It can be seen only in the right or left kidney or both.
What Are The Causes of Hydronephrosis?
- Hydronephrosis may occur congenitally or later. Congenital diseases are usually observed in childhood and the most common cause is renal outflow obstruction (ureteroplevic stenosis).
- Obstruction of the bladder entrance or obstruction at any level along the urinary tract is also one of the causes of hydronephrosis.
- Hydonephrosis can also be observed in neurological diseases of the bladder (neurogenic bladder) or in cases where urine leaks into the upper urinary tract, which we call vesicoureteral reflux.
Our team works in a multidisciplinary manner with various areas of expertise on hydronephrosis and offers a comprehensive, reliable and personalized treatment and monitoring service.
