Bloodless Heart Surgery
Bloodless bypass means that the heart is not stopped or kept minimally during coronary artery bypass surgery. This method, unlike traditional bypass surgeries, aims to keep the heart beating continuously. Repairing and bypassing vessels using special tools and techniques can shorten surgery time by minimizing the use of a heart-lung machine. However, feasibility and effectiveness may vary depending on the patient's condition.
Bloodless Bypass at Liv Hospital
Thanks to the bloodless bypass method, which is used especially in bypass and heart valve surgeries at Liv Hospital Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic, the patient can undergo surgery with only his/her own blood, without any additional blood transfusion from outside. Since there is no external blood transfusion with this method, the risk of infection is significantly reduced and the risk of certain blood-borne diseases is also reduced.
Along with approximately 190 hospitals around the world, Liv Hospital performs "Bloodless Heart Surgery Procedures" without blood transfusion. Blood and blood products (TDP, platelet, etc.) are not used in 88 percent of patients undergoing heart surgery. Although 2 units of blood transfusion is described as "bloodless surgery" in some hospitals, Liv Hospital defines 0 transfusion as "bloodless surgery".
